Tristan Leavitt - Board of Directors
Tristan Leavitt is an experienced leader who has spent a decade and a half in the trenches fighting for conservative values and principles. He is currently the president of Empower Oversight, a nonprofit, nonpartisan educational organization dedicated to enhancing independent oversight of government.
Tristan began his career on Capitol Hill in 2007 handling pro-life, religious freedom, and veterans affairs issues for Representative Bill Sali, a member of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus, the Values Action Team, and the International Religious Freedom Caucus. After law school he spent six and a half years as a congressional investigator rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government. He helped Senator Chuck Grassley expose Fast and Furious, the gunwalking scheme that armed the murderers of a U.S. Border Patrol Agent, and helped Chairman Jason Chaffetz and other members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee investigate Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while Secretary of State.
During his time on Capitol Hill Tristan became widely recognized for his expertise in protecting whistleblowers who followed their conscience in speaking the truth. That expertise led to Tristan being appointed to lead two different good-government agencies during the Trump Administration, helping whistleblowers such as one who revealed that the Clarksburg VA Medical Center manipulated veteran wait time data over seven years.
Tristan is a committed Christian and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From 2014-2019 he served as the pastor of his church congregation. He and his wife Brittany Atkinson Leavitt are the proud parents of five children and live in Charleston.
